The Well Workplace Process Explained

The Well Workplace® Process is an exclusive benefit for Wellness Alliance members. It allows members to customize their journey from evaluation and education to validation and designation. This proven method guides members through evaluating their organization's wellness culture, starting with the Well Workplace Checklist, followed by exploring their organization's alignment with the 7 Benchmarks™ approach, and culminating in applying for a Well Workplace Award. The Well Workplace Process demonstrates an organization's commitment to creating a supportive, healthy workplace while also fostering employee well-being and long-term organizational success. The time required to complete the process will vary based on the unique needs and structure of each organization.
Well Workplace Checklist
The checklist consists of 150 questions designed to help organizations understand what they need to implement a wellness initiative that’s the right fit for their employees. Each organization that completes the checklist will receive a score for each of the 7 Benchmarks, along with custom recommendations for areas of opportunity. Additionally, their top five strengths will be identified, enabling them to take immediate action toward developing a Well Workplace.
The 7 Benchmarks
Once an organization knows their baseline, they’re encouraged to take a deeper dive into the 7 Benchmarks with the course 7 Benchmarks: A Framework for a Well Workplace. Whether they’re new to the Well Workplace Process and the 7 Benchmarks approach or a seasoned veteran, the benchmarks serve as a strong foundation for building and sustaining effective worksite wellness strategies. In addition to the course, the Wellness Alliance offers toolkits and resources to support the ongoing growth of workplace wellness strategies.
Well Workplace Award
The Well Workplace Award application is designed to measure the extent to which an organization is following the 7 Benchmarks approach towards worksite wellness. The application includes multiple-choice and essay-format questions, along with supporting documentation, and may require input from multiple stakeholders within the organization.
The Well Workplace Award has four levels of distinction:
Platinum Well Workplaces have met the highest standards of wellness support and organizational alignment for wellness. They have distinguished themselves as leaders and innovators in workplace health promotion. Platinum Well Workplaces have demonstrated exemplary implementation of the 7 Benchmarks.
Gold Well Workplaces are organizations that have built exceptional and comprehensive worksite wellness strategies grounded in the 7 Benchmarks. They have demonstrated that they have a clear and unique business case for wellness in the organization and have created appropriate wellness initiatives and strategies to achieve that vision.
Silver Well Workplaces have demonstrated that their workplace supports employees’ efforts to engage in wellness behaviors and improve their overall well-being. They have demonstrated that they have a strategy in place that is approaching alignment with the 7 Benchmarks.
Bronze Well Workplaces are recognized because they have created a solid foundation to allow wellness initiatives to grow and flourish in the years ahead.
Once an organization has earned a Well Workplace Award, the designation is valid for three years.
In a Well Workplace Award–winning organization, the vision of protecting and enhancing the health and well-being of each and every employee has become part of the very fabric of the organization—not something extraneous and peripheral to the core business functions. All Well Workplace Award Winners have used the patented 7 Benchmarks model to help build and shape their wellness initiatives.
